faded pages

I was cleaning my room this morning and was dusting old books when I saw this soft bound book I purchased in a book sale back in college years. Cubao 1980 at iba pang mga akda by Tony Perez is a precious gem in Philippine Literature which gave way to a new voice in Filipino prose and poetry writing.

Browsing through the familiar short novel, poems, stories, and letters included in the book, I was reminded of how the creative style of Perez inspired me when I attempted to write in college. How the image of the busy streets of Cubao depict more than a simple image of the contrasting elements of life in general is something that should be noted by voice of the modern times. Of course I have totally stopped writing after college, and focused on other things. But the depth of each of his works continues to fascinate me.
